Meet natural beauty of this week Temeka, she is my fellow fotki sister. One of the many things I love about being natural is that each and every single individual has something special and unique to contribute to the natural world. I admire Temekas dedication to protective styling and for staying true to herself no matter what others may think. As her kinky beautiful tresses has proven; there is beauty in every texture and I am inspired. Here is her interview.
1. How long have you been natural? How long did you transition?
*I have been natural three years . I have no real idea of my transition because one year 2006 I decided to start wearing weaves, the next thing I know I was taking it out , cutting the straggly ends off and then braiding it back up. I did that for almost a year.
2. What are the pros and cons (if any) of being natural?
*The pros are being natural for me is , I have the power of my hair in my very own hands, I determine if I need to cut it , if it needs to be deep conditioned or trimmed. I decide if I like how it looks and if it doesn’t TO ME, then I figure out what does and do it. The cons are I consistently have to defend my hair to odd family members and friends who simply just don’t understand why I’m natural, LOL
3. Please describe your hair texture and its behaviors ex. kinky curly coarse coil very dry....
* I identify by the Andre Walker hair curl type as a 4a, it is extremely coily and likes to curl upon itself, it can achieve a cottony texture easily by manipulation. Instead of growing down it grows out like a halo surrounding my head
4. What made you want to become natural?
*It was just a choice my conscious made for me before I even knew what I was doing
5. What is your hair goal?
*My hair goal it to have my hair eclipse people when I walk by
6. Name 4 fave hair products?
*4 fave products , whew that’s hard. How about I love Qhemet Biologics, Hairvedas Cocasta Oil, Darcy’s Botanicals Deep Conditioning mask, Clay, Henna and Ayurvedic Hesh Herbs?
7. What tips and advice would you share with us?
* RESEARCH, Natural hair doesn’t cost a fortune. Don’t jump on bandwagons, READ, RESEARCH and most of all it’s a journey, don’t rush it, take your time to enjoy each moment
8. Where can you be found?
* I can be found Blogging at www.cerendipitystheone. blogspot.com , or at www.fotki.com/shawnystheone , or commenting on Nappturality or NaturallyCurly
9. What advice would you give someone who is considering becoming natural?
*Ask questions, there is no wrong way to go natural. If it doesn’t work for you then take a break , focus on a different aspect of your life, when you’re ready believe me you will know.
10. Would you say being natural affect your life? if so in what way?
* I’m confident just as I am , it’s my hair , God made me like this so what could possibly be wrong with how my hair is growing out of my head?
aaw..I looove Temeka's hair! She has such a beautiful spirit too <3
